Times come to challenge us to make us think about our own mortality. But what separates man from any other living being on Earth is the capacity to love and reason. We use these two things to bridge the gap between brutality and savagery. We need to focus each day on what we mean to each other and who we can serve.

Japan is suffering and we should help. We need to reach into the wall of forgiveness, and wealth of human love. No one knew it was coming and why. We see the mud, explosions and people dying. It reminds me of- Hurricane Katrina.

So many things have happen in past 5 years. However, we must not allow circumstance and false prophecy and fear blind us to the greatest thing we have going for all humanity– Love.

I commend the Japanese Government for being transparent and showing integrity for communicating the truth about what is going on to the international community. It seems they are doing all they can to bring the situation under control.

"Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan ordered everyone within 20 kilometers (about 12 miles) to evacuate. He told everyone within 30 kilometers (about 19 miles) to go inside. Japan's NHK television said most residents inside the 20-kilometer radius have already evacuated.

The Tokyo Electric Power Co., which operates the plant, said radiation levels outside the plant reached 8,200 microsieverts per hour at the front gate of the facility — more than three years of naturally occurring radioactivity in a single hour.

A fire at the No. 4 reactor has been extinguished but the fire caused radiation to be released. An explosion rocked the No. 2 reactor Tuesday. Tokyo reported slightly elevated levels of radiation. But officials said the increase was below the level which would threaten the 39 million people in the Tokyo area, 170 miles away from the power plants."

I am a sciencitist that concerned about using science as a tool to building a stronger, safer, and practical society. Science has it place in the world, but common sense must take the front set in its’ application. Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant should be an example of what can happen due to natural forces. I hope our government will take notice and make sure our nuclear plants are safe and able to with stand such natural diasters.

After the waters have calmed and people are living again some what of a normal life in Japan, I hope we reconsider nuclear energy as an alternative source of energy. Just because we can doesn’t mean we should. Knowledge is power, but we need wisdom when and how to use it.
